From Burnout to Balance: My Healing Journey and the Tools That Changed Everything

There was a time, not all that long ago (2023 to be exact) when I was sick more than I was well. Every virus or germ that circulated, I caught. My energy was non-existent, and I had to step back from my then business and take a job outside the home just to stay afloat. Even then, I’d come home exhausted, needing daily naps, relying on others to help care for the emotional and physical needs of my daughter. Life felt like survival, not something to be lived or enjoyed.

The Breaking Point

Burnout wasn’t just exhaustion - it showed up in every aspect of my life. Physically, I was covered in angry, painful rashes, constantly sick, and utterly drained. Emotionally, I was ultra-sensitive, sad, and disconnected from the life I had worked so hard to create. Mentally, I felt defeated, frustrated, and stressed, wondering how I had ended up here. Then one day, after yet another week off work due to illness, laying in bed it hit me like a tonne of bricks: I can’t keep doing this. This isn’t living. Something HAS to change. And it has to change now.

Taking My Healing Into My Own Hands

That moment was the catalyst. I refused to accept that this was just how life had to be. Upon reflection, I can clearly see that my healing journey started well before I even realised it — through all of the subconscious reprogramming work that I’d been doing inside The Pathway by To Be Magnetic. Work that had been planting the seeds of self-worth for months and months, which ultimately led me to seek out deeper healing solutions.

Listening to and following my intuition, I found two incredible women: Karen Hurd, who pioneered the approach that would change my health, and Unique Hammond, who guided me step by step through implementing it. They introduced me to what has since become known as The Bean Protocol (more on that bellow), a way of eating that focused on nourishment rather than restriction - and it changed everything.

What Made the Biggest Difference

The shifts definitely didn’t happen overnight, but they were profound. Some of the most impactful changes included:

  • Nutrition: Eating in a way that truly supported my body’s ability to heal (not to mention my bank balance) aka: The Bean Protocol. And whilst I dabbled with 1 possibly 2 supplements from memory over the past 15 months to help alleviate some discomfort, I was on them for less than a month total.

  • Rest & Recovery: Learning to listen to my body, allowing myself to rest, and letting go of the pressure to “push through” or care what others might think.

  • Daily Mindset Work: Continuing my TBM practice to shift limiting beliefs and make healing sustainable. Whether it be devouring the podcast, doing a DI (a fancy name for a hypnosis track) or leaving a voice note with my TBM bestie - I was 100% committed.

  • Gentle Movement: Prioritising nourishing activities such as restorative yoga or slow, simple walks - rather than forcing exercise. I struggled with this for quite some time as I’d been conditioned to believe that rigorous movement = life.

  • Quality Sleep: Tracking my sleep and health metrics with Whoop to ensure I am giving my body the rest it needs. I’ve had mine since November 2024, and as someone who loves data and tracking progress - I really enjoy it.

  • Hydration & Clean Water: Upleveling the water in our home by installing quality water filters and drinking, bathing and washing in pure, clean water every day. The rash on the lower half of my back disappeared completely after upgrading our water.

The Hardest Part (and How I Moved Through It)

One of my biggest fears was how these lifestyle changes would impact my relationships. I worried about the judgment, about not being able to “just go with the flow”, how we’d connect if not with and over food and whether it would even work for me given my many failed attempts of eating “healthily” before. But my desire for health outweighed my fears, and I leaned on my TBM work, my mentor, and my closest friends/family for support.

Life on the Other Side

Today, my relationship with my body is completely different. I no longer force or push through - I honor what my body needs. I have the energy to show up fully for my daughter, to be present and to create a business that aligns with my values. My skin, my mind, and my heart have healed. I now work smarter, not harder, and I set and uphold boundaries that protect my well-being.

Know this: Life is meant to be enjoyed, not endured. The life you’re dreaming of is possible - but it starts with believing you are worthy of it. Healing isn’t about doing everything perfectly; it’s about making small, intentional choices that support your body, mind, and soul.
